St Helena Cricket Team takes on the T20 World Cup

Congratulations to the St Helena Island Cricket Team!

The team who are supported by Mavin Powercube, recently competed in the sub-regional qualifiers for the 2026 T20 World Cup in Nigeria. Despite some early challenges adjusting to unfamiliar pitch conditions, they celebrated a fantastic victory over the Ivory Coast, with Jordan Yon earning the well-deserved Player of the Match award.

While the final outcome may not have been what the team and fans had hoped for, the experience was invaluable. The team not only gained critical insights but also showcased their potential to their opponents. They leave the tournament with a clearer pathway for future growth and development.

The journey wasn’t just about cricket—it was also about connection and inspiration. The team had the incredible opportunity to meet South African cricket legend Gary Kirsten and enjoyed a memorable dinner at Rondebosch Cricket Club, hosted by Jim George. Jim, who has long supported St Helena since the airport’s opening, shared how proud he was to be part of this journey.

On their final night, the team celebrated with a dinner hosted by Dave Hindle of Zedcore, one of St Helena’s key sponsors. It was a fitting close to an unforgettable experience.
Special recognition goes to Joey Thomas, who was named Islands Player of the Tournament by the coach and manager. It was a close call, but Joey’s adaptability, on-field performances, and all-round contributions made him a standout star.

Upon their return, the team received a hero’s welcome at St Helena Airport. Family, friends, and cricket enthusiasts gathered to greet them with rapturous applause and heartfelt well wishes. Team Manager Derek Richards shared his thoughts: “It’s great to be back, and it was wonderful to see so many people there to welcome us. This was an enriching experience for everyone and bodes well for the future of cricket on St Helena.”

The Mavin Powercube team has a special connection with the island of St Helena, one of the most remote locations in the world, and we’re incredibly proud to sponsor the St Helena Cricket Team and celebrate their journey. Here’s to building on this momentum and achieving even greater success in 2025!
